Avatar may seem like a purely
entertaining movie, it however is promoting many ideas and underlying
themes in its plot. For example, the humans begin to invade,
colonize, and exploit the natural resources of the “Na'vi” or
blue tiger-like people. A classic tale of what humans have done to
each other, to animals, and to nature itself since the beginning of
time. It is clear that the movie aligns itself with the side that
this is wrong, because the Hero is the one who opposes it and fights
with the Na'vi against the humans. In the movie, the humans only care
about removing the one, expensive natural resource that the Na'vi
possess and are willing to eradicate their population to get it. The
movie also promotes the idea that beings are and should be ones with
nature. The Na'vi are their entire planet get energy from the trees,
and when the trees are cut down the Na'vi and the planet are no more.
One can just switch the natural resource in the movie for oil in real
life, and see the significant parallels. Humans will destroy natural
environments and habitats, endangering animals in the process, to
obtain and drill for oil. Or substitute it for diamonds: Humans will
go into other countries or continents (Africa) and colonize,
endanger, and steal all of the wealth of that country and its
citizens by digging for diamonds, cashing in huge, and keeping all of
the profits. These are all very similar to James Cameron's tale,
Avatar.
Crysthel, your analysis of Avatar relates to my thoughts on the film. I don't know what it will take for the human race as a whole to accept these ideas. Some people devote their lives to being one with nature, and others will do absolutely anything to benefit on a physical level, even if it means destroying their own planet. These actions reveal little signs of intelligence and the people who do these things are vicious monsters who need to be stopped. The movie Avatar is indirectly comparing their world to planet Earth. The problems we see in Avatar are comparable to the crisis’s that are surrounding all of us.
ReplyDeleteThe making of, “Avatar”, was beautifully put together, the special effects and scenery amazing.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this movie a lot, especially the way the plot of the story give way to man’s downfall in trying to destroy what could not be taken by force.
Avatar gave a creative look into what cost mankind will go to in the conquest of having one’s way. It is always relieving to see that not all of mankind seek to destroy without first trying to see and understand the reason of ones’ action and the outcome in which will ensue.
To see a society of individuals becoming one with nature was outstanding. The connection in which each individual was able to commune with their ancestral history and love ones showed the spiritual aspect of harmony and balance of nature.
I wait in anticipation for the next part to Avatar, for the way the film ended left a hint of mankind most notable retaliation act when having been beaten and forced to retreat.
My entire family loves this movie. Not only is it colorful and action packed it has a moral to the story as well. I use this movie and others similar to it like the children's equal to this movie "The Lorax" to educate people of why we should work together for the planet not against it. Both promotes the preservation and conservation of our planet. I love that both films detail the destruction of our habitats, I only hope that people pay attention to the underlying meanings of the movies. "Avatar" shows what historically we have done, find something of value that we want, do anything necessary to obtain it. It shows the greed and the consequences that are associated with it. It also shows that there are people everywhere that are trying to preserve and protect nature and natural resources. I too wait for the next chapter in movie and the outcome it will hopefully show.
ReplyDeleteTo tell you the truth, Avitar has never been a movie I liked because I thought it was about stuff that made know sense. I am thakful that I took the time to watch the clip and read your review. My family loves this movie but they could never tie me down to watch it. When I saw it advertised on T.v., I wantted to see it because of the graphics. I wasn't feling the blue people. Now I have a better understanding of them trying to become one with nature and to protect themselves. There will always be a fight for the things that are right. The rich keep getting richer and the poor continues to suffer. As we see today, a human life is not valued as nothing but we can spend money to better our nation and our communities. Instead of using oil to help get out of debt, we use it to fight against ourselves.
