Film Review Movie "Big"
The movie"Big" was a movie that about a young boy who made a wish that he was big. Because he was not able to ride on the ride with his friends. After, the next day he was big, Tom Hanks, played the adult part, of the movie Big. He thought making this wish would be an effective way for him to do anything. He feels that adults are able to whatever they would like to do when they want to without any restrictions; for example, he wanted to stay up late to watch TV and he did. Because he was now an adult, he had to support himself. After learning that things were not all grand being big, he wanted to be a kid again. He found that he this was an ineffective wish because he had to responsible adult with no more free time. I am sure we all have said " I wish I was older or bigger", some point of time. This is an example of do not rush to grow up. Enjoy life day by day and do not rush time.
This is one movie that is on my list of all time favorites. It reminds me that you do need to cherish your childhood and not try to grow up so fast. Today's kids are forced to grow up faster then I ever did. On computers in kindergarten or earlier, kids are exposed to adult life so very early on.
ReplyDeleteAlthough being "Big" allowed him the freedom to do as his wished, it came with the responsibilities of adulthood. Tom Hanks holding an adult job as a person who gets to play with toys is an irony that I love. Also, even though he is an "adult", his apartment is full of toys and things that kids enjoy. I agree with Kathy's statement of "do not rush to grow up".
This was indeed one hilarious movie. I really enjoyed the way the producers made the actor Tom Hank’s roll, of child turned adult, not only witty and inventive but also giving a great look at that old saying, “be careful what you wish for”.
ReplyDeleteFrom a child’s point of view of an adult, life may seem simple and easy. Being able to do whatever you want to do as an adult, through the eyes of a child, this is like a given right of adulthood. We, as adults, have come to know that this given right is non-existent. Although being an adult may have its advantages, there are also many disadvantages that also come with the deal. As a child, there are no major decisions to be made, decisions are made for you. There is no need for a career because you are supported by your parents. Once adulthood is established, decision making and need of funds fall at your feet, from that point on it is sank or swim.
I am glad you wrote about this movie. I recently saw this and it sure brought back memories. The last time I saw this movie I was probably as young as the the young character and now I am as old (or older) than Tom Hanks when he made this movie. It is kind of weird as I have been in both positions now and when I was young I wanted to be old and now that I am old(er) I want to be young again. What a great movie as everyone can live through this cycle and experience the same emotions those characters did, except there is no going back. Good review Kathy.
