Exercise 12.5 page 325

In the first photo, courage for them is to over come their fears of many different things to help save the lives of many. They have to run into burning building, wondering if it is going to collapse on top of them or if their equipment is going to fail and leave them to burn to death. They most likely have a family and wonder if they are going to be able to come home that night, but with courage being on their side, they can overcome that fear and do their duty to help the people of their community.

In the second photo, however, courage may mean the same but it defines it through a different situation. Those penguins are on a decently high ledge and they have to jump over in order to go into the water in search for food in order for them and their families to eat and survive. If they didn't have courage, they wouldn't be able to jump and they would be stuck up on that ledge to die. But, as you can see, some of them overcame that fear and jumped into the depths of the sea to continue their life with their family.

So, all in all, courage is overcoming a fear in order to survive, or help something or someone in need. It can include many different things, but as a gist, this is what I would define courage as.
