Good Music
The definition of good music can mean many things to many different people. Some people like rock, rap, hip hop, slow songs, fast songs, and many more. Music, in order to be defined as good, has to have some sort of effect on you. Some people think that people screaming lyrics or rapping about sex, drug, violence, and more, can not be defined as music at all. It all depends on the persons outlook on it. As long as it has some sort of effect on you, then it should be considered music, whether that effect is good or bad, emotional or angry.
On a personal note, the song I chose is "This I promise you" by Nsync. I see it as one of the most touching love songs ever made. I dedicated this song to my fiance. If I played it for her right now, she would burst out in tears. It moves us and many other people, as I've read on YouTube. This song found a way to touch our hearts and explain exactly how we feel about each other in a whole four minutes or so. It is an older song by a band that split up a long time ago but it still sits in my mind and on my computer when I get in that mood to settle down and relax while spending time with my fiance. It is a song that will never get old. Ever since I first heard this song, I have searched and searched for one like it and nothing compares. I did find a couple that are like it but never better. I listed then below. If I did a pole to see how many people actually like this song, I can imagine the numbers being very high.

I have to say, I'm about the farthest thing from a fan of N'Sync as one can be, but you do make an excellent point even with an N'Sync song. The fact is, people do have different ideas of what makes for "good music" and what is "bad music". I personally am not a big fan of modern pop, but I love most modern rock, classic rock, and metal. Others would disagree with me, but I think the way you point this out is well said. Most people just stick with their own opinions and anything else is not worth listening to. The fact that you mention this is important.
ReplyDeleteI really like how your discussion emphasizes how we all like a song or a type of music for different reasons. Sometimes you may enjoy listening to a song even though you don't like the singer or its genre but simply because you can somehow relate to the lyrics. Most of the times people get attached or have a favorite song because of the message behind it. Ex: Some mothers would say that "You are the love of my life" by Sammy Kershaw describes their feelings towards their kids while other women may say that song would be ideal for their boyfriends/husbands. In this case you relate to this N'sync song (which I really love too) because it describes the feelings you have for your fiance.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much have to agree with Maxx every single person on this earth likes music they just happen to like different genres of music. Personally I like all types of music country , rock, hip hop and R&B. Now one to the song that has been chosen I also happen to agree this is one of the most touching love songs I have ever heard. While NSYNC happens to be a favorite band of mine. I think that this songs describes the type of love that most people want to experience. This song shows so many emotions. This song is one that will never grow old. Its an excellent song to describe how you feel for another person when you may not be able to express yourself. This is a great love song that if you have never heard it you should take the time and listen to it, this song just might change your mind about this genre of music.
ReplyDeleteExcellent point Maxx. I have always disliked NSync and thought of them as another boy band. I would not be caught dead listening to this band. I read your essay and then listened to the song. Wow! I have listened to this music with a different perspective and I appreciate the message conveyed in this song. I will not be jamming out to NSync anytime soon, but I will not be so quick to deprive myself from experiencing new and different types of music. Especially what helped me come to this new understanding is the lyrics that were being displayed.
