Discussion post: Exercise 15.7
The traditional lecture method of education has a number of problems. For example, if you are absent from class for a personal reason then you miss out on the lecture that is given and all of the information that pertains to it. In addition, if the professor giving the lecture has a thick accent or one that the listener is unaccustomed to hearing they will find it harder to pick up on the key points that the professor is trying to hit on. Making lectures available as podcasts, however, will allow for the listener to engage more with the lecture using strong listening skills as well as using resources they wouldn’t be able to use in class. There are three reasons that this teaching method should be adopted.
One reason is that if a student is absent they don’t have to miss out on the information that was given during class as they would have access to a recording of the lecture to keep them from falling behind in their studies.
Another reason is that if the speaker has an accent that is difficult for some to understand the listener will be able to replay parts of the lecture to make sure they properly understood or even ask for others to listen to parts to make sure they’re hearing the same thing.
Finally, you will have a copy of the lecture to take with you wherever you go and listen to as many times as you please making studying a breeze and far more efficient.
For these reasons, I believe that lectures should be recorded and distrubuted to classes in a podcast form for ease of access, checking the accuracy of the student’s information, and for easier and more efficient studying.

This is a great idea and I agree with you. Because life can throw you a curve ball, and this will help when someone misses class. The second great point about the accent of a teacher and that is the truth. This is a positive and great idea that should be allowed. Schools should look into this podcast for students that may struggle through college. The ability to go back and listen over and over the lectures would be a great tool for school.
ReplyDeleteI think that providing lectures on podcast is a good idea as well. The professor has limited time to convey the information so students can learn. Some professors don't like to have discussion in class because it takes away from lecture time. If a professor had his lectures on podcast he could have more time for interaction between students in class. Professors would have more work to do though. At the beginning of every semester the professors could record all of his lectures and post them on Angel and them during class time answer any questions from his lectures from Angel.
