TO HIS COY MISTRESS
Andrew Marvell written a beautiful poem that relates to his feelings love, life, and death. He talks about is love for an individual that will last forever and no one has his heart. So, the phrase "For, lady, you deserve this state, Nor would I love at a lower rate," symbolizes that his love would be highest of all and nothing less. As the time continues on the phrase " But at my back I always hear Time's winged chariot hurrying near," seems that time is coming fast and he wants to present is love for the coy mistress. The third and final phrase "And while thy willing souls transpires," as death is upon him and his mistress that the ending will really be the beginning of a new life when they go through the iron gates of life after death. This was a strong poem that his love will be true from now to eternity even after death.
It looks like you really enjoyed this poem Kathy. I read it and decided I better do one of the other assignments. You did pull out some lines and interpreted them very nicely and I think you really caught the essence of what he was saying. It is also really cool that he was just writing these for himself and wasn't trying to make money off of a book or something.
