Above is a picture of today’s version of the very well known Batwoman or Batgirl. Her costume is skin tight and almost transparent. The way the light shines on her highlights and attracts your eyes to certain body parts. Her body shape is sleek and sexy and more like a porn star rather than a respected superhero. Her breasts are made to show off and the way the bat on her costume is placed means that you have to look at them. Her face is Barbie-like and her red hair (about the only thing relevant to the original Batgirl) is perfectly curled. Her body language looks like she should be on the cover of a fashion magazine rather than performing extreme martial arts to fight crime, and accompany Batman as his sidekick. Here she is portrayed to be something totally different. This photo brings an audience who is probably male. I think other women who idolized the original batgirl would not be fans of this one. Just like me, they probably liked the idea of Batgirl being a total badass. She was also a genius who could hack computers and rode a motorcycle. Her costume was cute and purple and not just eye candy for men who like to look at women dressed up as their favorite childhood superhero.

ReplyDeleteNot loading for me, either, but I figure it's the same look as they did to Black Widow in Avengers. Right? I totally agree with your point. Batgirl should always be drawn to look (almost) as B.A. as Batman himself.

ReplyDeleteAfter reading this post, it has been determined that I totally agree with this post. Batgirl or Batwoman if that is what you would like to call her reminds you more of a porn star than a super hero. She was not a very big part of the team. Its as if she was more of an ornament than anything else. It does not seem as if they really wanted to add a female to the Bat family. There seems to be a more sexual quality about her than a female crime fighter. I believe that this drawing was made to lure in the male audience.
ReplyDeleteAs I see Im not the only one who can't see the picture in the post. I did look some up to get an idea of what you were talking about though and I do agree. In time, they have changed her into an icon that looks like a porn star and the way that they have these woman fight is more of a turn on for most than having that excitement to find out who wins. Its sad to see how the world has changed to be more perverted. Even in childrens' movies. I just dont understand.
