Discussion post #1 week 5
So, what is the big question all about? Is economic progress killing the planet? The image’s casual argument is that modern development and the steps we’ve made to get so inclined is causing our planet to die. In the image you see a human hand holding a gun and it is pointed at a target which happens to be a map of Earth. The hand holding the gun is also placed in between the words killing and planet. This is emphasizing that the world has no defense against the damage we are doing to it. You also see another hand holding a gas pump and is filling up their vehicle. Oil is a natural non renewable resource (at least in our lifetime). What are we going to do when we cannot get more oil? Both of these examples pertain to the casual argument of the entire image. The progress we have made has certainly served it’s duty by producing billions of products in a short amount of time. It has also been evil to our Earth by stealing and not replacing. If the world continues be in doubt about alternative sources for sustainable living here, then something will eventually take over. The image asking to think about the ways we have succeeded, and then to question whether or not it might have been cheating.

I love th e way you worded this. Makes me feel less sophisticated ha ha. But really, you did a very good job explaining this. It is true, we are slow destorying our planet and it makes me sick. No one seems to care until the day that we all find out that we are going to die. Then all that is going to do is start a riot between people. I don't understand why no one cares but we all have to work together to get this world back, (maybe not the way it used to be but hopefully close).
ReplyDeleteI agree wholeheartedly with your post. Human beings have an instinct to expand their knowledge and in order to do that they need new technology. In order to make that new tech we need more resources so the more we mine into the planet to reach those resources because the ones that are closer to the surface have already been mined. Until we learn how to make these resources artificially this cycle of “Expand to create, create to expand” will continue until our planet has no more resources for us to mine.
