As I am a male, this advertisement caught my eye
right away. The first observation is a physically fit woman that has a lot of
skin exposed. My imagination starts to go to work and I wonder what her face
looks like. The next thing I notice is her "tramp stamp", once I see
that on a girl I am fairly certain she likes to party and if I drink Bacardi I
may get the opportunity to party with a girl like her. The caption below the woman reads “Librarian by Day,
Bacardi by Night”. This ad is not only targeted
towards people attracted to women, it is also attracted to reserved people in
reserved employment. The advertisement is trying to show that you can be a very
reserved person during the day, like a librarian, and become wild party animal at
night and there is nothing wrong with that. This advertisement is definitely directed towards
people attracted to women. As there is not much logical thinking put towards drinking
and partying, this advertisement is directed towards pathos.
You hit the nail right on the head with your analysis, Jay. They’re going off the notion that you need to let your hair down and have some fun so they are aiming it as positions viewed as “stuffy” such as the librarian(I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a teacher and DMV clerk version). The advertisement works in the way it’s set up. I feel like going out and partying with a librarian now. It’s not trying to be flashy it’s just simply saying “go party”, and in that respect it works.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this ad might be directed towards a male buyer. The image is of woman who is highly attractive and as Jay said, leaves you wanting more because you can't see her face. I also think this ad could be aimed for women who work routine jobs that don't involve a lot of interaction and freedom. The woman who sees the ad might want to purchase the Bacardi because she is bored with her daily tasks and wants to have a night out partying. It shows that even the stereotypical woman who "shushes" people in the library is still capable of being fun. And as Chase said, the males that see the ad might go looking for a woman who is more reserved during the day but once she clocks out she can turn into a wild sexy dream.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that this ad is more than likely aimed at male viewers, just by the context alone; scantly clad female, bottle of Bacardi, put the two together makes one interesting night.
ReplyDeleteEven though the female in the ad is labled as being a librarian one can see by the Bacardi Rum logo tattooed on her lower back insinuate that overseer of books isn't the only thing she like to do.
This ad sales an illusion that captures most males who are into partying, bars, drinking alcohol, and picking up females, the throught of actually seeing what could possibly be a prim and proper female with her hair down, so to speak, is a male testosterone level boost. The ad works and I am quiet sure Bacardi rum sales went up.
I may pick up a bottle on the way home.
